PB did her best to cheer Krypto up. “At least you have us!” she enthused. Pointing to herself, she said, “Super Swine!” Pointing to Chip, she said, “The Furocious Zapper!” Pointing to Ace, she said, “Indestructidog! And…wait. Where’s Snap-er-ella? Snaps?”

Merton had stopped to talk to a helmet with a headlamp. She was so nearsighted, she thought the helmet was a cute male turtle. “What’s happening, sweet cheeks? Whaddya say? Your shell or mine?”

PB spotted a row of TVs in the window of an electronics store. When she saw what was playing on their screens, she stopped and pointed. “You guys, look!”

The five animals crowded around the window. On the screens, they saw Lulu flying through the air. She and the other guinea pigs were battling Wonder Woman!

“Mm-kay,” PB said, full of admiration for her hero. “Wonder Woman will stop her!”

But the next shot on the TV screens showed Wonder Woman tied up with her own magic lasso. “Goddess, no!” PB cried.

Next, the TVs showed The Flash with his feet stuck in blocks of cement. Aquaman rode a wave out of the sewers, only to have the water frozen, which sent him flying off and landing hard on the pavement. Cyborg tried to help his fellow Justice League Super Heroes, but Lulu yanked out his battery. He immediately slumped over.

Finally, Lulu used her tractor-beam power to steal Green Lantern’s ring and capture her. The guinea pigs had won!

Ace, PB, Chip, and Merton looked horrified.

“I guess it’s down to us,” Krypto said. “Who’s ready to go save my best friend?”

Chip stared at him with his big, round eyes. “You want us to fight her? She just took out the whole Justice League. We don’t stand a chance!”

Merton said goodbye to the helmet with the headlamp as though she were going off to war, never to return. “Remember me when I’m gone, Fabrizio.”

“Guys, relax,” Krypto assured them. “We’ll be fine.”

But they didn’t feel fine. Chip cowered behind his bushy tail. A piece of Merton’s shell fell off.

They made their way to a rooftop for a better view of Lulu and her guinea pig army. Looking down, they saw the guinea pigs terrorizing the city—smashing, freezing, and burning buildings and cars at will.

“You see?” Krypto said confidently. “Totally fine. Now, let’s hero up! All right, team, what are your stats?”

PB stepped forward, excited. “Okay, my name’s PB. I’m a Pisces. I love the smell of fresh linen and other things that smell fresh.”

“Just tell me your powers,” Krypto said. “Like, for example, my powers include heat vision, freeze breath, and the Solar Paw Punch.”

Ace looked unimpressed. “So basically you see hot, you breathe cold, and you punch stuff?”

“I’ll have you know,” Krypto said, drawing himself up and looking slightly offended at Ace’s question, “the Solar Paw Punch is so intense, I’ve never even attempted it. It requires me to fly all the way to your yellow sun and absorb its deadly radiation directly into my cells. Which could kill me!”

Ace rolled his eyes. “Like I said, you punch stuff.
